Protecting Your Baby You have baby-proofed your nursery. You put safety caps on all the exposed electrical outlets. You carefully selected a crib that conforms to federal regulations. You chose only choke-free squeeze toys to entertain your baby. But have you really created a sanctuary that will keep your baby safe, healthy, and secure? You have also chosen your décor—creating a room that you hope will delight your baby. Perhaps, wild animals on wallpaper peer out from a jungle, or a musical mobile with the moon and stars rotates above your baby’s head, or a stack of baby videos is all set to play. But is this important room designed to please your baby—or is it designed to please yourself? Babies are precious, impressionable, and vulnerable. We need to take special care—and be deeply aware when we create the first room that replaces the womb.
